About the Owner

Matt Longhini grew up in suburbs of Chicago. Nicknamed Ghini by my friends, I was always building, painting, and tinkering with things. I was destine to work with my hands from a young age. After graduating high school I was unclear on my next step, but it seemed like cooking school. While working on applications and thinking over my future I began collecting minerals and gemstones. I eventually started using some of the gemstones to make wire jewelry. After awhile, I realized that jewelry and gemstones was becoming my passion.

Jewelry gave me a great outlet to be creative with design and work mechanically with my hands which I loved. In early 2014 my dad told me I should look into school for my jewelry. A month later in May I was sitting down for my first day of class in the Graduate Jeweler program at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, California. That first day of class was the first time I sat down at a jewelry bench, and I haven’t looked back since. After graduating I worked professionally as a bench jeweler in Seattle, WA gaining industry knowledge and building on my skills. The years I spent as a bench jeweler allowed me to see all the different aspects of the jewelry industry from sales to design. I realized during this time that I wanted to bring my own identity to the industry. Not only did I want to create my own designs, but I wanted to work directly with customers helping turn their ideas and daydreams into one of a kind beautiful pieces of jewelry that will last generations. After another short class at GIA for CAD modeling, and a week building on hand engraving skills with master engraver Sam Alfano, I was ready to get to work. I began developing my own designs and trying to figure out what to call this new venture. I thought back to my roots, looking for something that described me and could be easily recognized. Then it hit me, GHINI. I hope GHINI can be a creative outlet for not only artists, but for the person looking to be a part of the creative process.
